Slow pitch softball for seniors in Northern Virginia began in the summer of 1980 with 47 players.  From that small beginning, Northern Virginia Senior Softball (NVSS) evolved and has grown to over 500 players on 27-30 teams in three skill-level Conferences.  It is a not-for-profit organization with officers and directors elected annually by its members.   

Membership is open to men 50+ and women 40+.  All new players are given a skill-level assessment and are assigned to a team at their skill level.  Two seven (7) inning games are played each Tuesday and Thursday, beginning at 9:30am.  Every player present is in the line up to bat and must play at least three innings at one of the 11 defensive positions. 
The Summer Season runs from mid-April to early august and the Fall Season is September and October.  All games are played on Fairfax County fields.
